Daddy

When he first cradled her in his arms,
he began to comprehend
heaven.
As he watched her grow
from tomboy to young lady,
he began to fathom
the heart of a woman.
As he held her in his arms
and dried her tears,
he began to understand
his own strength.
As he watched her mature
his heart slowly learned
a fathers pride.
As he left her off at college,
her start on the road to independence,
he began to understand
emptiness.
And after it all
he could finally comprehend
the true meaning of "Daddy."
