If
By Rich Reith

If I could design a heaven
It would be spending eternity
Knowing I was more than a friend,
I was your lover.

If I could dream of a heaven,
it would be laying in a halcyon night,
listening to the sound of your heartbeat
echo through my soul,
feeling the warmth of your fingertips
laying upon my skin.

If I could possess heaven on earth,
It would be a world where I desired no one but you,
you hungered for no one but me,
and know that it's impossible to feel that
for anyone but you.

If my wishes could all come true,
they would be simple:
to have you need me
as much as I need you,
to have you love me
as much as I love you,
and to wake each morning
feeling your cheek lying softly on me as you sleep,
feeling your gentle breath on my chest,
our hearts beating in time,
our love one and the same.
