Destruction
By Rich Reith

My heart was already broken, my love,
by dreams which circumstance dashed.
But you took out your knife,
and took out your whip,
And you slashed, and you lashed,
and you slashed.

We COULD have stood together!
And cried and screamed at life,
At a wonderful chance that circumstance
stole from a husband and wife.

But you chose to wallow in bile,
fill our lives with F-words galore.
As I recall, and recall, the words that destroy
It destroys all you want, and then more.

You hide yourself away,
bring ice-cold to our lives
As you work to destroy all we've been
Playing the game and daring the flame
Making sure that no one can win.
